2018 Fall Ball Registration Now Open!

Registration for our Fall season is now OPEN!

From a competitive standpoint, Fall Ball is in between our recreation games and travel league games. Some stricter rules are enforced, but the emphasis on competition does not reach that of travel games and more closely resembles our recreation games. Our Fall Softball teams will again play within divisions of the Hudson Mohawk (HM) District 7 Girls Softball Traveling League at all levels. Our Fall Baseball teams will once again play within divisions of the Eastern States Baseball League (ESBL). We will also be offering in-house development programs in both softball and baseball – see below.

SOFTBALL

For 8U (In-House), we will be running our own in-house program primarily focusing on instruction and skills development through both individual and team based drills and scrimmages. Emphasis will be on throwing, fielding and hitting. In the past, the program was one weeknight a week plus a set time on Saturday. Exact details for this year’s program are still being worked out. We will let you know when they are finalized. All 8U players will also have the opportunity to play on our 8U HM team, as listed below.

For 8U (HM), 10U, 12U, 14U, and 17U, play consists of doubleheaders on four consecutive Sundays beginning on September 9th, and ending on September 30th (8 games total). In addition, each team will practice one to two times per week on top of the games. Travel will be within the local area, i.e., Latham, Burnt Hills, Shen, Rotterdam, etc. We may be scheduled for home games, if our league is asked to host on one of the Sundays, but we will not know until schedules are released by HM.

BASEBALL

For 8U, 9U, 10U and 11U, all players will participate in an in-house skills clinic, held each Tuesday and Thursday 5:45 – 7:30pm. All players will have the opportunity to tryout for our travel fall ball teams at 8U, 9U, 10U and 11U. Play for the travel teams will be on Saturdays and/or Sundays, beginning on or around September 8th or 9th, and ending around October 6th or 7th (8 – 10 games total). Some days will consist of doubleheaders. We will have some home games, as well as away games within the local area at locations such as Niskayuna, Guilderland, North Colonie, etc. We will know exact game dates when schedules are released by ESBL.

REGISTRATION

The Fall Ball registration fee this year for each player is $50. To register, go to our website at www.southcolonieball.org/registration and click on the ‘Register’ button!

If you have any questions about Softball, please contact Bryan at bryankelly@southcolonieball.org .

If you have any questions about Baseball, please contact Matt at mattconley@southcolonieball.org .

We hope to see you for Fall Ball!

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR CCHS GRADUATING SENIORS

scholarship-clipart

South Colonie Youth Baseball and Girls Softball board voted unanimously to continue our Dollars for Scholars donation, but with the money earned from the AWESOME coach’s game last year, we bumped the donation UP to $1500 (previously $500)! This established two $750 scholarships that will benefit college-bound seniors at Colonie Central High School. Graduating seniors are encouraged to visit the South Colonie Dollars for Scholars website (https://southcolonie.dollarsforscholars.org) for further details.

To qualify, graduating seniors need to have played baseball or softball within our South Colonie (formerly West Albany) league, located at the West Albany Pocket Park, off Exchange Street in Colonie. The Dollars for Scholars Awards night is May 15, 2018.

Please share with anyone you think may be eligible!

2018 Travel Baseball & Softball Tryouts

In addition to our recreation programs, SCYB&GS also has a great travel program for our older players.  Any player with any interest in our travel programs will need to attend their appropriate tryout. Tryouts are open to ALL players that meet the age requirements and are registered for recreation ball. Registration is available at http://www.southcolonieball.org/registration/. Player age is determined by their age as of May 1, 2018 for Baseball and Dec. 31, 2017 for softball. Tryouts are open, FAIR and great competitive experience for players. Even if you would just like to see what the programs are about, come join us, let your players have some fun and ask lots of questions to our wonderful coaches! Attendance at multiple sessions is more than welcome if unsure what level your child would like to play provided they meet the age requirements.

See Baseball and Softball tabs on the website for additional information.

Opening Day!! 4/21/2018

Opening Day is set for Saturday, April 21, 2018. Kicking off the day will be the annual players parade down Sand Creek and into the park. We will gather at the Hebrew Academy at 54 Sand Creek Rd at 9:30 am and the parade will begin promptly at 10:00 am. (*Current Plan)

The parade will lead into the opening day festivities and introductions on the Cal Ripken field (check out the map on our website). Following the ceremony will be plenty of games, great food, activities and auctions to keep everyone busy.

We also plan on having plenty of spirit wear apparel on hand to purchase and order. Make sure to check out our silent auctions too as we’re sure to have some terrific items to bid on.

We look forward to kicking off another successful season down at the SC Pocket Park. We’ll see you there!
