Continuous Can Drive opened at Colonie Beverage

Tired of bottles and cans collecting in your house?
Hate putting them one at a time through a machine?
Wish you had an easy way to help others?

We are excited to announce the arrival of a continuous bottle drive to benefit all the ball players at South Colonie!

In an effort to keep costs where ALL kids can play ball, our friends at Colonie Beverage have opened up an on-going account at their shop on 1823 Central Ave, where you can just pull up, drop off your returnable cans and bottles and drive away. Just tell them its for “South Colonie Youth Baseball” and they will take the cans, count them and credit our account. The league will then receive a check by mail… it’s THAT EASY to help!

Can DriveStore hours: Mon-Sat 9am-9pm, Sun 9am-6pm

Our Opening Day is scheduled for April 21, 2018!  The day’s activities will kick off with our annual parade and a few other fun surprises.  Save the date!

Mini Minors Moving on Up

11391639_840548722705630_6336975330753594944_nA team was recently created consisting of some of our softball Mini Minors (8U) players that will be moving up to the Minors (10U) next year. Our ‘Mini Raiders’ we be playing a short series of games against a similarly created team from the Latham Lassies. The games will be played on the larger 10U field using modified rules from both 8U and 10U to give the girls an idea of what the game will be like next season.

The first two games will be this coming weekend on Friday and Sunday. Friday, June 19th, will be at Latham “under the lights” at 6:45 PM and Sunday, June 21st, will be at South Colonie at 1:00 PM. So come on out to the games and support our Mini Raiders!

9u Travel “Under the Lights”

travel teamCome out on Friday 6/12 to the pocket park to see the South Colonie 9u travel team take on Clifton Park. The two teams pair off at 8:15 pm under the lights on the Cal Ripken field directly following a SC intermediates rec game. The concession stand will be rocking and the weather looks to be terrific. So come out and cheer on your Raiders! The Raiders boast a record of 3-2-1 while Clifton Park comes in at 1-4.

Opening Day Success!!!

Opening Day 2015 turned out to be a special one for South Colonie Youth Baseball / Girls Softball. The sun was out, the fields were ready, and it was finally time to play ball. Our annual parade kicked off the festivities as the boys and girls marched down Sand Creek Road toward the park. It was awesome to see the local businesses and neighbors come out to wave and show their support. The parade procession then made its way through the park to the Cal Ripken Field where the boys and girls, assisted by their coaches sat around the infield. The sound system was on and it was time to hear from our Co President Jeff Hellkamp.

On hand were:

Paula Mahan – Supervisor
Greg Mack – Eastern NY Babe Ruth Assistant State Commissioner
Donald Dugan – Central Area District Commissioner
Andrew Sommers
Michael McLaughlin, Director for Research for Albany County Executive Dan McCoy

Presenting Grant
Joseph O’Brien, County Legislator
Richard Jacobson, Colonie Legislator

The first pitches were thrown out by our distinguished guests and the National Anthem was sung beautifully by Melissa Mele. Greg Mack was on hand to remind the crowd, “This is your program. All of it is made possible because of the volunteer support given by its parents and core board members. Get involved and keep this program going.” It rings true, because following that message, Don Dugan honored the 8u SC All-Star team that made it to the State Tournament in Rome, NY. Without the support of the community and the dedication from the parents and coaches, none of it would have been possible. It was a special moment for those kids who made that journey together to meet again in the middle of the diamond to receive a plaque and commemorative pins noting their accomplishment. It was even more special to those kids as they felt the recognition and applause from the community wash over them on this glorious day.

Once the ceremony concluded, it was time to play ball, and all the fields were buzzing with activity as teams began preparing for their upcoming games. The concession stand had full support of all volunteers and breezed through order after order. It was also great to see familiar faces and friends walking around the park again. The raffle tables were set up and there was something for everybody, from Professional Baseball game tickets to Xbox cards, movie baskets to restaurant gift cards. Not to mention the Derek Jeter plaque and Yankee seat back. Special thanks to Tricia Savoca for organizing and arranging all the amazing raffle items on hand.

This day belonged to the kids though. As volunteers we do a lot to make sure days like this are special. But it’s up to all of us as a community to continue to make South Colonie a strong program for years to come. Next time you’re down at the park, see how you can help make a difference. Volunteer and join the team.

Bottle Drive Success!!!

Thank you to all the board members, volunteers, donators and kids who came together to make the South Colonie Youth Baseball and Girls Softball fundraiser a huge success. Good things happen when the community works as one towards a common goal.

There will be a mandatory meeting on Wednesday, March 4 at 6:35 – Shaker Elm School. Parents and players of travel teams must all be present. This meeting is open to anyone in our program though. If you have an interest, please make every effort to attend.
