Divisions and Travel Programs

Mini-Minors

The Mini Minors Division is for players that are 6, 7 and 8 years old (as determined on January 1, 2018). In this division the kids are taught the basic fundamentals of softball and the main focus is on skills development. The kids will experience a combination of coach pitch and kid pitch.

Required Gear: glove, helmet, facemask
Recommended Gear: cleats
Optional Gear:  USA Softball certified bat
Suggested pants color if purchased: black

Minors

The Minors Division is for players that are 9 and 10 years old (as determined on January 1, 2018). In this division the competitive part of the game of softball is introduced and the kids do all of the pitching. The games are umpired by a youth umpire behind the plate and team records are kept. There are playoffs and a championship game at the end of the season.

Intermediates

The Intermediates Division is for players that are 11 and 12 years old (as determined on January 1, 2018). In this division the kids do all of the pitching and a certified umpire is used behind the plate. Team records are kept and there are playoffs and a championship game at the end of the season.

Majors Prep

The Majors Prep Division is for players that are 13 and 14 years old (as determined on January 1, 2018). In this division the kids do all of the pitching and a certified umpire is used behind the plate. Team records are kept and there are playoffs and a championship game at the end of the season.

Majors

The Majors Division is for players that are 15 through 18 years old (as determined on January 1, 2018). In this division the kids do all of the pitching and a certified umpire is used behind the plate. Team records are kept and there are playoffs and a championship game at the end of the season.

Travel Programs

Softball will again play within the Hudson Mohawk District 7 Girls Softball Association’s Traveling League (HM). We are fielding teams at 10U (age 10 & under), 12U (age 12 & under), and 17U (age 17 & under). HM has tentatively set play to begin with double-headers on Sunday, June 3rd, and Sunday, June 10th. Games then move to twice weekly in the evenings during the week. Scheduled games run through the week of July 16th, with any necessary make-up games to be played by July 31st, which is the official season end date. Overall, play lasts eight weeks (seven with scheduled games) and consists of 12 games. Practices will be one to two times per week, in addition to the games. Travel will be within the greater Capital District area. Player age for Softball is determined by the player’s age as of December 31, 2017.

Open Travel Softball tryouts are scheduled for:

• Friday, March 9th and Friday, March 16th*
• Roessleville Elementary School, 100 California Ave, Colonie
• 6:30pm – 8:30pm – 10U & 12U**

* Interested players must attend at least one of the two tryouts, and are highly encouraged to attend both.
**17U Travel Softball tryouts will be on an undetermined later date.

 

REGISTRATION & ELIGIBILITY

The Raiders Travel registration fee this year for each player is $130. It goes directly towards players’ uniforms, umpire fees, HM league fees, tournament fees, insurance, and field maintenance.

*** PLEASE NOTE: In order to participate in tryouts for and play on any Raiders Travel team, each player must register for and play in at least 50% of South Colonie Youth Baseball & Girls Softball recreation games this upcoming Spring 2018 recreation season.
